Welcome! Thank you for coming by my site, I appreciate that it takes a lot of courage just to get to the point of considering seeing a therapist. If you are looking for therapy services, for yourself or someone else, I hope that I can answer some of the questions you may have here.
I'm a Registered Social Worker (RSW) and Therapist, EMDRIA Certified in EMDR, with a private practice located in Kingston, Ontario. I have over 20 years of experience as a therapist and have worked in various community counselling and healthcare settings over the years (please see the About page for more info).
I offer confidential, individual counselling and therapy services for adults, using a collaborative, strengths-based perspective. Coping with stress, change, and loss are common times when people reach out for help. The attentive listening, empathy and feedback that are part of the therapy process can help reduce feelings of isolation, connect us to inner resources and lead to meaningful change.
My background includes helping people with issues such as recovery from depression, anxiety, experiences of loss, and trauma. Involvement can be short or longer-term, depending on the type of issues to be addressed and individual needs.
I draw from a variety of therapeutic approaches, including cognitive-behavioural therapy, mindfulness-based therapies, insight-oriented therapy, solution-focused therapy, and EMDR. Therapy approaches, such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), offer extensively researched and integrative ways to find relief when painful experiences cause ongoing distress in our lives. In choosing approaches, I'm guided by what seems to be the best fit for the person I'm working with, taking into consideration the issues they're seeking help for, where they're at, their preferences and learning styles. My practice values diversity and is LGBTQ affirming.
