I began working as a therapist in 1995, at the satellite office of a hospital's mental health counselling program. Working within a multidisciplinary team over the 8 years that I was there, I gained experience with a variety of clinical issues, and specialized in working with adults who had experienced abuse during childhood.
Since that time, I've worked as a therapist in other healthcare and community counselling settings, often with a focus on issues related to recovering from trauma, and the development of healthy coping strategies. For several years I provided therapy for individuals in a community eating disorder program, using a non-dieting, size acceptance approach.
I completed my graduate and undergraduate degrees at Carleton University (Master of Social Work), the University of Manitoba (Bachelor of Social Work), and Trent University (Bachelor of Arts).
I am an EMDRIA Certified EMDR Therapist and Registered Social Worker, and keep up-to-date in my field through attending trainings, engaging in clinical supervision, and EMDR consultation (with EMDRIA Approved Consultants) on a regular basis.
